Manage the Impact of Aging

“Life is short and unpredictable. We don’t choose life events—they choose us.”
MARIAM LARSON, Gerontologist, Speaker and Facilitator
BA (Psychology), PBD (Gerontology), Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®

Mariam Larson delivers inspiration and emotional connection to her audiences. “Manage the Impact of Aging on Business” keynotes and workshops take an optimistic approach to aging, integrating her expertise in Gerontology (the study of aging), Psychology and Education. With eighteen years’ experience as a consultant and facilitator in corporate communications and training, Mariam brings a practical, business-like perspective to the intersection of business and aging. Corporate, professional and community audiences value her passion and perspective.

Since 1996, Mariam has volunteered as chair and co-chair for a senior centre’s community advisory committee. She is a trained hospice volunteer, trained as a bereavement group facilitator and artist-in-healthcare. Her workshop, “How to talk with your aging parents: What to say, when to say it, and why” was published as part of a Simon Fraser University course on teaching older adults. Dedicated to developing effective sessions, she conducted applied research, doing a successful program evaluation of her communication training workshop for older parents. In November 2007, Mariam developed and presented a Certified Senior Advisor module about culture and aging to BC Notaries Public.

Mariam has provided all stages of eldercare while working and parenting. Experiencing the impact of aging within her family inspired a change in her professional focus from corporate communications to improving the communication dynamics of aging families.
